Дождик лил как из ведра
The rain was pouring down in sheets;

Opening the garden gate,

I spotted in the yard’s midst
Глупую улитку
A foolish little snail.


Говорю ей посмотри
I said to her, "Just look!
Ты ведь мокнешь в луже
You’re getting soaked right in this puddle!"
А она мне изнутри
But from deep inside, she answered:
Это ведь снаружи
"That is merely on the outside."


А внутри меня весна
"But inside me, it is spring;
День стоит чудесный
The day is truly wondrous,"
Отвечала мне она
She replied to me—
Из скорлупки тесной
From within her tiny shell.


Говорю повсюду мрак
I said, "Darkness reigns all around;
Не спастись от стужи
There is no escape from the cold!"
А она в ответ пустяк
But she replied, "It’s a trifle—
Это ведь снаружи
That is merely on the outside."


А внутри меня уют

Расцветают розы

Я сказал с улыбкой

And bade farewell to that funny,
Глупенькой улиткой
Foolish little snail.

Всё что хочешь другу
